Treatment Types
Jason holds an Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy adding knowledge to an extensive range of tools that he uses to diagnose and treat your condition, including, but not limited to, neurological based assessment and treatment techniques from Neuro kinetic therapy and PDTR. Also tried and true treatment styles myofascial release, manual deep tissue mobilisation, dry needling, trigger point therapy, PNF and muscle energy technique.
How we do it
Treatment Types
Neurokinetic therapy is a relatively new treatment style that involves communication with the motor control centre of the brain. Using a form of manual muscle testing, compensation, dysfunction or movement pattern deficiencies that are usually accompanied by pain or asymmetry, can be assessed and altered.
NeuroKinetic Therapy is an excellent manual therapy tool as it identifies both the cause of dysfunction and pain, allowing a more focused approach to correcting the issue. Restoring normal function and best of all, giving long lasting results.

Acupuncture is a component of Chinese Medicine that dates back over 2000 years. It involves inserting fine sterile and single-use needles into specific locations (acupuncture points) around the body. These points are selected based on their specific functions and corresponding presentations of the patient.
During your consultation, our registered Chinese Medicine practitioner will go through a list of different questions regarding your current health concerns as well as your general health and well-being. They will then prescribe a corresponding treatment appropriate for your presentations.
Musculoskeletal therapy (MST) practitioners assess and treat pain, dysfunction and restriction affecting movement, energy and vitality. MST offers a holistic approach to health that restores and maintains the integrity of the soft tissue structures (fascia, nerve, muscle, tendons, ligaments and the skeleton).
As a natural medicine practice, musculoskeletal therapy aims to address the cause of the problem. It restores balance in the body by directly influencing the physical structures and internal processes, while improving movement awareness.
Functional fascial taping is a specialised method of therapy used to relieve pain and often quite instantly. Functional fascial taping seeks to increase the range of movement ultimately to facilitate the rehabilitation of musculoskeletal pathologies at an accelerated rate. Functional fascial taping is a technique that can be applied to most parts of the body.
Functional fascial taping is a very structured therapy in which there is a clear objective this is functionally assessed and in turn functionally applied, encouraging normal pain-free movement patterns. Functional fascial taping is versatile in that it can be used at any stage for any musculoskeletal condition whether it be an acute or a chronic condition. Fortunately, functional fascial taping is also a cost effective a non-invasive technique.

Myofascial release is a form of soft tissue therapy that is commonly used to treat the restriction of motion and pains associated with physical dysfunction. Myofascial release can be achieved by relaxing contracted muscles, increasing circulation and stimulating the stretch reflex of the overlying fascia (the soft tissue element of the connective tissue that gives protection and support for most of the structures inside the human body) and muscles.
The fascia can become tight as a result of trauma, overuse, psychogenic disease and infectious agents. Additionally, inactivity, lessened blood flow, and muscle tension can also lead to a tightness in your soft tissues. Myofascial release techniques aim to ensure that your fascia is treated and restored to its normal state. These techniques can target the stages of inflammation and tightness of your soft tissues and aid those with chronic inflammation or fibrosis (the thickening of connective tissues.)
For any further questions regarding myofascial release techniques please do not hesitate to contact Jason at Suncoast Myotherapy.
As the name suggests, manual deep tissue mobilisation is a physical therapy technique that is used to release tightness in muscles, fascia, ligaments and other soft tissue.
Manual deep tissue mobilisation is essentially soft tissue mobilisation applied with more force or at a greater depth in order to release the parts of your body that are severely restricted. Manual deep tissue mobilisation can often be slightly painful. However, it is important to note that this is temporary and will ultimately help your body to achieve dramatic results.
Manual deep tissue mobilisation can also relieve tightness in joint, muscles and fascia. Restrictions or tightness in soft tissue and joints can impair normal movement and in some cases will cause muscle pain during movement. Excessive tightness in muscles and the body can also restrict the flow of blood and disrupt nerve signals in the area. Manual deep tissue mobilisation is regularly used to restore joint function after an injury.
For any further questions regarding manual deep tissue therapy & Mobilisation please do not hesitate to contact Jason at Suncoast Myotherapy.
Dry needling is a remedial therapy practice that engages your muscles, tendons and soft tissues in order to induce the healing process in affected areas. Dry needling has found to be one of the best tools for sports injuries, muscle and skeletal injuries and for tendon injuries at any age. Dry needling specifically works for muscle injuries, soft tissue injuries and tendon injuries by inserting needles into the problem area and sending signals to the brain. In doing so the process of healing is sped up and can offer permanent pain relief to the problem areas as opposed to the short-term release that pain medication can offer.
Dry needling works for three main reasons:
- Dry needling directly targets the problem areas and engages in forms of deep tissue massage
- Dry needling can induce short-term inflammation of the muscles, promoting newly oxygenated blood to flow through the muscle. In doing so the tendons too will receive relief and this will ultimately reduce muscle pain/tension.
- Finally, dry needling changes the fluid balance within the muscles themselves, promoting the production of new proteins.
It is important to note that dry needling differs from acupuncture. Acupuncture works on the meridian points of the human body, (points connected across the body that affect a specific organ or another part of the body) whereas dry needling works on the trigger points (points of tenderness where pain frequently radiates) working on muscles, tendons and tissues.

Myofascial Cupping is a form of trigger point therapy and myofascial release. It incorporates various stretching and massage techniques with the application of slightly suction cups. Myofascial cupping seeks to lift and separate the soft tissue, stimulating greater nutrient supply and fluid movement throughout the soft tissues. In doing so, myofascial cupping helps your body to achieve an increased range of motion.
A myofascial cupping treatment usually will begin with general massage and palpation to pinpoint and discover target areas. Cups are then placed on the targeted areas and engaged in order to create a negative pressure within the cup. It is the negative pressure inside of the cup that will separate and lift the soft tissues. The cups can also be moved around and along the affected tissues, helping to stretch the tissues and bring in fresh nutrient enriched and oxygenated blood.

Muscle Energy Technique (MET) is a relatively common form a manual therapy and can be linked to traditional osteopathy. Muscle Energy Technique is a form of remedial therapy that is most commonly defined as “contract-relax stretching” as it seeks to activate and contract the client’s muscles into a specific direction or range of motion against the therapist’s manual release.
The Muscle Energy Technique is thought to be effective for two reasons.
- Reciprocal Inhibition, i.e. working to isometrically contract the antagonist of the problematic muscle in order to increase the client’s range of dorsiflexion.
- Autogenic Inhibition, i.e. by isometrically contracting the muscle and engaging a response from the activated muscle or surrounding tendons you would allow for there to be a greater range of motion post contraction.
Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) is very similar to the muscle energy technique, for many practitioners the two practices are almost interchangeable. Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation seeks to enhance both a passive and active range of motion in order to aid rehabilitation and improve motor performance. Alike the muscle energy technique, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation involves a shortening contraction of the antagonist muscle, to place a stretch on the target muscle followed by an isometric contraction of the target muscle.
For any advice on either of these therapies, please do not hesitate to contact Jason at Suncoast Myotherapy.
Exercise prescription regularly refers an individualised plan of activities centred around fitness that are recommended for a particular purpose. Exercise prescriptions are most commonly developed and documented by rehabilitation specialist or fitness therapists and are tailored specifically to the patient or client.
When it comes to exercise prescriptions the main goal should always be to successfully integrate new behavioural techniques and exercise principles into the participant’s life. Ensuring that these measures engage and motivate the client/patient to be compliant, with the outcome of achieving their goals is crucial.
Generally, an exercise prescription includes exercise, specific workloads, intensity guidelines, and duration or frequency expectations, all of which must be met for the exercise prescription to be effective.

Having good posture should be a goal for all, it allows you to feel more energetic, prevents injury and reduces muscle pain. Acquiring good posture not only involves learning new positions and movements, but also means changing lifelong habits and learning new ones. Poor posture is a largely overlooked and disregarded problem, because of the strain it puts on your muscles and ligaments it can lead to chronic migraines and muscle pain, poor breathing and in some studies has been proven to worsen some mental health diseases such as stress, depression and anxiety.
The first step to combating poor posture and achieving postural correction is having your posture type assessed. Perfect posture typically includes a normal joint range of motion, normal muscle length, good muscle strength, excellent muscle endurance, normal nerve extensibility, and good spacial awareness. Having good posture also includes creating a mindset that will remind you to correct your body in situations your posture may be deteriorating.
Postural correction techniques for those who have posture the lessons their quality of life can often be addressed with deep tissue muscle massage and postural exercises that seek to build up your muscle strength and endurance.
Postural correction is often a case by case remedial therapy plan, to learn more contact Jason today at Suncoast Myotherapy.
Remedial massage is a therapeutic massage technique that addresses specific muscle and soft tissue issues. Unlike traditional massage, which aims to promote relaxation and overall well-being, remedial massage targets healing and rehabilitation. It involves a combination of deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, and myofascial release to improve muscle function and reduce pain. Remedial massage can be used to treat conditions such as muscle tension, joint pain, and sports injuries, and can be particularly beneficial for chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia and sciatica. It can also be used to improve flexibility and range of motion, making it useful for people who are involved in physical activity.
How Remedial Massage Can Help You
People often visit us for remedial massage in St Kilda or one of our other clinic locations for chronic back pain, which is an extremely common condition affecting over 80% of the population at some stage in their lives.
